An idea that sparks a watch collaboration can come from anywhere. Some brands look to the world of motorsports while others get their ideas from aviation-inspired designs. Those are two pretty popular sources of inspiration, but not for Singapore-based Aries Gold. Aries Gold was started by CK Woo in 1970 and is the only watch manufacturer in Singapore with all watches designed and assembled in their home country. After a successful collaboration timepiece with the Foo Fighters – that sold out in just two months – the watchmaker is hitting the stage with another group of Rock legends, Aerosmith. The Aries Gold Aerosmith limited edition watch is the brand’s latest collaboration, and one that offers a bold, loud, and eccentric look that matches the high-volume intensity of the band that inspired it.
It’s also worth noting that the case features a near-bezel-less design, which leaves enough visual space to put the dial on display. This is important because the dial on the Aries Gold Aerosmith limited edition is beautifully three-dimensional. Moving from the hour/minute ring to the center, the dial steps down to a skeletonized layer that features a range of finishing varieties and a look at the movement. Legibility is aided by large (very large) dauphine-style hands coated with a thick application of lume. The same can be said for the big spear-tip seconds hand that extends well into and past the chapter ring.
Speaking of the lume, the watch’s most distinctive feature is of course the classic Aerosmith logo badge found at 12 o’clock. Designed by the band’s ex-guitarist, Ray Tabano, the logo has been around since circa 1974 and was a fitting choice for the watch. The entire badge features a full application of lume that results in a serious light show and excellent visibility in darker environments. All of this is displayed beautifully behind a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
Inside the Aries Gold Aerosmith limited edition is a Japanese automatic 82S0 movement replica watches supplied by Miyota. The Aries Gold Aerosmith limited edition is available in black, gold, rose gold, and silver case colors. Limited to 1,000 pieces, the watch is now available for a retail price of $489 USD.
